2.1. General data of the engine

ENGINES ON THE MINIBUSES VW T4

On VW T4 the cross arrangement of the engine in a motor compartment is accepted. Engines are installed 4-and 5-cylinder both petrol, and diesel.

Removal of engines is made down, and the 5-tsilidrovy engine is removed together with the transmission, and 4-cylinder without it.

Works on the engine are complicated by the short cover of a cowl complicating access to a motor compartment. Therefore, for the purpose of access simplification, a radiator together with a lattice and the fan just lean back forward.

Tilting of a radiator is required almost always during the works on the engine and is described in subsection 2.2.

In the block of the engine cast from gray cast iron there are cylinders. At strong wear or existence of zadir on walls of cylinders, they have to be otkhoningovana industrially. Then, naturally, it is necessary to install pistons of the increased diameter. In the lower part of the block of cylinders there are support for inserts of radical bearings of the crankshaft and the crankshaft. Connection of the crankshaft with pistons is provided by the rods sitting on the crankshaft in sliding bearings. In the lower part of the engine the oil pallet in which there is an engine oil is located. From above to the block of the engine the head of the block of cylinders cast from aluminum alloy since this metal carries better out heat fastens and gray cast iron has smaller specific weight, than.

To a head of the block of cylinders exhaust and reception collectors fasten. In the top part of a head of the block of cylinders there is a cam-shaft receiving the movement from the crankshaft through a gear belt. The cam-shaft through hydraulic dish-shaped pushers sets vertically located inlet and final valves in motion. Hydraulic pushers automatically level gaps in valves so adjustment of gaps within service is not required.

Lubricant of the engine is provided by the oil pump which at the 5-cylinder engine fastens in front to the block of cylinders and is set in motion by the crankshaft. At the 4-cylinder engine the oil pump is in the oil pallet and is set in motion by an intermediate shaft.

The oil which is taken away from the pallet on openings and channels moves to radical bearings of cranked and distributive shaft, and also to the working surfaces of cylinders.

The water pomp at the 5-cylinder engine is in front in a case of the crankshaft and is set in motion by a gear belt. At the 4-cylinder engine the water pomp fastens sideways to the block of cylinders. The drive of a water pomp is provided with a maple belt which sets in motion and the generator. Additional maple the belt provides the power steering pump drive. It is necessary to pay attention that in the cooling system mix from water and nonfreezing anticorrosive additives all the year round has to refuel.

For preparation of air-fuel gas mixture the system of injection of fuel serves, as a rule, not demanding leaving.

The electronic system of ignition of petrol engines supports the ignition moment almost constant. Depending on engine type the distributor of ignition fastens on the left side of the block of cylinders or behind on a head of the block of cylinders. In 4-cylinder engines it is set in motion by a gear wreath of an intermediate shaft.

The intermediate shaft, in turn, is put in action by a gear belt from the crankshaft. In the 5-cylinder engine the distributor works directly from a cam-shaft.

The diesel engine has no system of ignition as as a result of strong compression air heats up so that after injection of fuel there is a mix spontaneous ignition. The Fuel Pump of High Pressure (FPHP) is attached sideways to the block and is given in the movement by a gear belt.

Prevention

The fan of a radiator can spontaneously will turn on even at the stopped engine and the switched-off ignition. It can repeatedly result from heat stagnation in a motor compartment. At work in a motor compartment at the hot engine with it it is necessary to be considered and take a possibility of sudden turning on of the fan of a radiator into account.
