6.6. Elimination of vibration of a steering wheel and forward part of the car

Vibration of a steering wheel at certain speeds arises, as a rule, in case of disbalance of wheels.


1. To check pressure in tires.
2. To make trial departure. To define malfunction whenever possible more precisely: speed, a condition of a paving, turns and exits from them to a straight line.
3. To install the car on supports.
4. To check centering of rims. At the same time naves of wheels or brake drums have to come out for an otbortovka of disk wheels or at least, to be with them aflush. Otherwise to replace rims.
5. To check a suspension bracket of wheels, having checked at the same time a perfect condition of rubber-metal support, hinges, shock-absorbers and rims.
6. To remove and clean wheels, having removed at the same time stones from a protector.
7. To check wheels for brake bald spots which are visible on a thin layer of a residual protector, formed at full braking with the blocked wheels.
8. To check protector depth on tires and to compare with each other. At not brake wear of tires in front or behind, it is necessary to adjust disorder convergence. At the same time adjustment of a convergence needs to be made on the upper bound of the admission.


Measurement of a running gear requires the corresponding measuring system which, as a rule, is available only on HUNDRED.

9. To make test departure and to check again existence of malfunctions.

Check of fight on height and side fight of wheels

1. To install the car on a trestle. To establish a suitable hour micrometer on a protector, then on the side surface of the tire. Rotating slowly a wheel by hand, to measure the maximum sizes of a beating on height and a side beating, to mark these places with chalk.
2. The required values: the maximum fight on height – 0,8 mm; the maximum side beating – 1,2 mm.
3. If these values are not maintained, to balance wheels by stationary balancing car. At the same time wheels have to be centered in the same way, as by car. The conic long devices aligning a wheel in a centering opening are not admissible. Admissible residual disbalance, in both balancing planes, makes 5 grams.

Elimination of a beating on height (alignment)

1. To let out the air from the tire and to crush on a rim.
2. To turn the tire on a rim on 120 °.
3. To pump up the tire and again to check a beating on height.
4. If the maximum value is exceeded, to turn the tire on a rim for 120 ° and to measure a beating on height.
5. If the maximum value is sustained, to balance a wheel.

Check of a beating on height and a side beating of a rim

1. To establish, having centered a wheel rim without tire on balancing installation or the car. To establish an hour micrometer.
2. And a side beating (S) to check a beating on height (N) on the specified sheets, without paying attention at the same time to roughnesses of material of a rim and deepening under the gate which can interfere with exact measurement.
The required values: steel rim: N = 0,6 mm; S = 0,5 mm.
3. If the sizes are exceeded, to replace a rim.

Installation of wheels on the car

1. At the car installed on a trestle to establish wheels so that the place maximum the beating on height was above. To tighten in this situation wheel screws cross-wise a dynamometer key the moment of 160 N · m.


If distinction in wear of separate tires is small, and the smallest weight of disbalance to establish wheels with the smallest beating on height on the forward bridge.

2. To make test departure. If again the beating of a front or vibration of a wheel is found, then they are a consequence of residual disbalance which is eliminated by car with additional balancing.

Balancing of wheels by car

1. When balancing driving wheels it is obligatory to establish both wheels of one bridge on rollers.
2. The drive of wheels has to be carried out by the engine that wheels rotated synchronously. Cars with the all-wheel drive have to be lifted on both axes. To balance axes it is consecutive.
3. To make a control run.
4. If malfunctions are not eliminated, means radial and lateral motions of one or several wheels are too big. HUNDRED they cannot be measured by means. In this case there is only a replacement of forward or back wheels. At the same time tires have to be replaced only with couples.
